Whispers in the Air

Our English teacher asked us to make an essay about "The day I met Humility and Forgiveness", I was inspired and made this output. It may be corny as it seems but I think it has a big message. And yes, this is my first step on making a novel!

The clouds are in its normal blue, chirping birds singing like Adele, the sun shining as bright as ever, the ice cream man selling a new flavored popsicle, kids playing on the playground with big smiles on their face, families prepping up for a day in a beach and high school teenagers in their casual light wear gossiping about a new movie. I can sense a great and fun summer ahead.

As I walk toward a new café in town, I noticed a man drinking a cappuccino, dressed in a vivid color of yellow. I ordered my usual green tea frappuccino and when I was about to head out the shop, I caught him staring at me and signaled to sit beside him. With no questions asked, I sat with him and introduced his self. He said, “Hello young man, do you want to hear some story?” I nodded and he continued. “I’m Mr. Humility by the way and I am going to tell you something that would change your fate.”

He told me that there was a once a working man who never stopped on dealing with clients. He worked hard and earned a big position in a company. Later, he met up with a friend and boasted what achievement he had. Told he was better than his friend and did anything for him to be ashamed. His pal got annoyed and rushed home. As I listened carefully, I imagine an exact scene few weeks ago. I hope it’s not. He ended the plot with a warning: “My dear son, we all know that when you reached something high for a thing you worked for a long time is a great feeling. But when you tell everyone and boast about it, you are not a fine man at all. Stay modest and humble, lower your pride and let people discover your achievements. Understand Mr. Sutter?” I was surprised. Why a stranger would know my name? I got scared and ran to the bus stop and when I looked back to where he was sitting, he’s gone.

When I got on to the bus, still sweating and panting, my eyes caught a fine lady in green overalls with a name tag, “Dr. Forgiveness”. I sat beside her and she smiled. Five minutes have passed and I am near at my block. She picked a picture in her pouch and showed it to me. The photograph shows a guy who looks professional. She spoke and said “You know the guy right? Well, dear son, he’s sorry for what he'd done to break your friendship. He apologized and did all he could do to make everything all right but you did not notice it. I hope you could find it in your heart to forgive him. Would you waste all the precious moments you shared with a simple argument? If not, then make it right. Yes, he broke a part of yourself but it was done and you should forget about it. Be forgiving my child.” The bus has stopped. I walked into the door. I looked back. It's just me and the driver on the yellow car.

The two individuals kept bugging my mind. Then I realized, the story and picture they shared are mine. I am the man who worked hard and embarrassed a friend and the man who did not forgive. What shameful actions I had done. Suddenly my world has stopped and all I see is blackness. I woke up with snow falling on my window. It was dream. Now I have to get my jacket, go out and do something to make things right.

And that is how I met Humility and Forgiveness.
